Man fined $250,000 for using fake driver's licence
A St Catherine man, who attempted to do a transaction using a forged document, was fined $250,000 or three months imprisonment when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on yesterday.
He is Fabian Facey, a 30-year-old labourer of Gregory Park in Portmore, St Catherine.
In handing down her sentence Parish Judge Tara Reid-Carr told the accused that he committed a serious criminal act.
Allegations are that, on June 10, the accused went to a financial institution in Portmore to do business. It is said that he tendered a driver's licence bearing his name and photograph. However, checks revealed that it bore a serial number from a batch of driver's licences that were stolen from the Island Revenue Department.
The police were summoned and an investigation launched.
This resulted in Facey being charged with uttering forged documents.
