Waterhouse FC honour Fraser-Pryce for ‘extraordinary 18-year career’

Jamaican sprint queen and Waterhouse icon, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, was recognised for 18 glittering years of track and field excellence by Waterhouse Football Club at their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football game against Molynes United at Waterhouse Mini Stadium on Sunday. Molynes United won 2-0 and climbed to seventh on 15 points, the same number as sixth-place Waterhouse FC, who have a better goal difference.
Tank-Weld Metals Limited's managing director and Waterhouse FC chairman, Bruce Bicknell, recited a citation to honour the multiple Olympic and World Championship 100m and 200m gold medallist, during the halftime interval of the football match.
"In recognition of an extraordinary 18-year career in athletics, the Waterhouse Football Club, together with the Waterhouse community, extend our profound commendation to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
"As she moves on to the next chapter of her life, we wish her sincere best wishes and continued success.
"May you carry with you, the same passion, fire and grace that has defined your journey so far, and carry 'Mommy Rocket' even higher. The deepest respect and admiration (from) Waterhouse Football Club," Bicknell read to adoring supporters in the stands.
IMPORTANT ROLE
Fraser-Pryce, noted that Tank-Weld, the Bicknells and the Waterhouse community played an important role in her early development and teenage years, and that the club and community remain as close to her heart as ever.
"A lot of you might not know, but Tank-Weld contributed a lot to my high school journey, because my mom would have received a lot of support from Tank-Weld and Bruce and I want to say a big thank you for playing your role in the journey. And also to the Waterhouse Football Club for the continued support, love and dedication," she told the audience.
"To the fans and supporters of Waterhouse, I think one of the greatest message is knowing that from Waterhouse greatness can come. And I really appreciated all the support I have at home (Waterhouse). And who knows me know I bleed Waterhouse through and through and I thank you for the support."
RENEWED ENTHUSIASM
She added that though the competitive chapter of her athletics career has ended, she looks forward to the next stage of her life's journey with renewed enthusiasm.
"The journey has been extraordinary, and there is nothing without God. It is God who makes all things good and I give Him the glory for all that He has done for me.
"I look forward to the next journey and what the chapter beholds and I want to wish the Waterhouse team all the best for the rest of the season. If anybody can win, it's you," she stated.
