Beryllium guard yet to be charged, millions still missing
Nearly a week after he was captured, the security guard accused of stealing millions of dollars from a Beryllium armoured vehicle has not yet been charged, police have confirmed.
Up to early Wednesday, no criminal charges had been laid against the 42-year-old guard, who was nabbed last Thursday at a premises in St Andrew following a seven-day manhunt.
Investigators said that the suspect must first undergo a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney before any formal charges are brought.
"He has to do a question-and-answer first," one investigator explained, noting that it's standard police procedure.
Meanwhile, cops say the exact amount of cash stolen remains unclear, and millions of dollars taken from the armoured vehicle are still missing.
The guard, who worked with Guardsman Group's subsidiary, Beryllium Limited, was part of a three-man team assigned to collect cash at MegaMart in St Andrew on October 11.
It's reported that while his colleagues went inside the store, he stayed in the armoured truck. When they returned, both the guard and the cash, estimated to be between $15 million and $20 million were gone.
He reportedly left behind his uniform and the company-issued firearm.
An official at the Guardsman Group declined to comment when contacted on Tuesday.
