Jamaica Derby Day’s Reggae 6 opens at $12.2M

JAMAICA Derby Day’s Reggae 6 opens at $12.2 million with a mandatory payout expected to reach a possible $20 million after Saturday’s $62,167 dividend was dominated by three Tevin Foster winners, NOVIO, STAR QUEST and WAYNE’S PRINCESS. 
Foster started his assault aboard United States-bred NOVIO in the second at five furlongs round, chasing down the 1-9 favourite, stablemate and fellow American PEPPER STEPPER, handing champion trainer Jason DaCosta his first of four winners. 
Foster himself had four winners, enjoying an armchair ride aboard DREAM CATCHER, who fulfilled her destiny on Sunday by adding the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks to the Thornbird, Portmore and 1000 Guineas titles she amassed this season, crowning herself champion three-year-old filly. 
Chance two bankers on Thursday’s Reggae 6, Americans UNBELIEVABLE POWER and CONFIDENCE IS HIGH, runners from the high-percentage barns of Adrian Prince and Peter-John Parsard, respectively. 
UNBELIEVABLE POWER was outsprinted from the inside draw at five furlongs straight on last, but closed for second behind Parsard’s speedy MANOLETTI MAJESTIC. Prior to that run, the three-year-old filly had shown a preference for longer distances, suggesting she should now outstay rivals at six and a half furlongs in the second. 
Similarly, Parsard’s CONFIDENCE IS HIGH, run off his legs by disqualified NEPHEW and SUMMER PALACE at five furlongs round, came home willingly for second, making him tough to beat at seven furlongs in the fifth.
