New Kingston Business House quarter-finals get under way
The Western Sports-sponsored New Kingston Business House football league continues this week with two sets of quarter-final matches.
Today marks the opening with Jamaica Premix tackling ZS Limited at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader at Barbican Astro Turf Sports Complex, which has been home to the competition.
Both teams made the eight-team play-offs by winning extremely competitive matches, as Jamaica Premix went the full distance and beyond to nip Loshusan Supermarket 3-2 on penalties, following goalless play in full time.
ZS Limited, however, were spared the nerve-wracking and drama associated with a shootout, after securing a 1-0 victory over Progressive Grocers.
In Monday's feature encounter, it will be a battle of the paint experts, with Berger Paints going up against Edgechem, beginning at 7 p.m.
More than 40 teams lined up in the competition and spectators witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the previous round, when Edgechem did a paint job on the defending champions Creative Business Finishes, eliminating them 2-1 in a penalty shootout, as none of the teams were able to score during regulation time.
Berger Paints also advanced by winning on penalties, securing a 3-1 margin over Heart/NTA to ultimately decide an encounter lacking in goals.
Another set of quarter-final matches will be played on Wednesday, with Celebration Brands challenging KPMG in the 6 p.m. opener, and Spectrum Roofing going up against First Global Bank in the closer at 7 p.m.
Celebration Brands disconnected the Jamaica Public Service quarter-final aspirations with a comfortable 3-1 margin, while KPMG registered a similar margin against Heart/NTA's B team.
Spectrum, in the meantime, had a 2-0 shutout over Select Brands, while First Global worked overtime to set up a 3-2 penalty shootout victory against FedEx, following a 1-1 tie in regulation time.
