No plans to get married again

March 17, 2026

Dear Pastor,

I hope all is well with you and that you are keeping the faith. I am an old man trying my best.

I lost my wife some years ago and I have received many offers from women, but I have turned them down. I don't have any desire to remarry. But there are times I feel lonely. Some of my grandchildren stay with me and I am glad to have them here, only that they are noisy. You know how children are.

I like sports, so I spend long hours watching sports on television. I cook but not very often. Some of my friends come by and take me out, but I don't drink and I am not a good domino player. I am 76 years old. Since my wife died, I got baptised. She wanted me to get baptised a long time ago, but I was not ready.

I have three outside children, but only one child with my wife, and he is a good son. He is always in the news, so I will not call his name. I am enjoying my pension and I help my grandchildren. They love to be around me because they know that I have spoilt them. Getting married again is out of the question because my children will not want me to do so. Plus, I don't have much use.

I have a lady who comes in and cleans my house. She does a good job. But most times when she is here, I don't stay in the house, lest I would be tempted. One cannot trust these ladies nowadays. Although I can help myself in the kitchen, whenever she is here, she cooks enough food that can serve me for three days. She told my son that I am afraid of her, but she will not do anything to hurt me. But my mind is not in that area at all.

S.

Dear S.,

Treat the lady who works for you very well. I am glad to hear that you are a happy man.

Many elderly men are not happy. Many believe that after they have lost their wives, they should become sexually involved with other women. So they are in a hurry to do so. You are a wise man.

Stay out of trouble. Enjoy your sports and the company of your grandchildren. Be good to yourself. Make sure you go to your doctor often and may the good Lord bless you.
